Window graphics for the new season

Summer is officially over for another year. If you own or run a shop, that means one thing – it’s time to update your window graphics for the new season! Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, New Year. They’re all just around the corner. It’s a busy time for shopping and vinyl window graphics are an excellent way to grab the attention of passers-by and entice them into your store.

Here at Vinyline, we’re a bit of a window graphic expert. We know what works (and what doesn’t) in a retail environment – and can help to create the ideal autumn and winter decals for your shop window. Simply follow our step-by-step guide and give us a call to discuss your ideas with the team.

4 steps to create the perfect shop window graphics

1. Choose a style

First and foremost, you need to consider which type of window graphics will work best in your shop. Is privacy important? If so, a full-length opaque or perforated window graphic could be the best option. These can have a very dramatic effect and are a great way to pique curiosity. But they do block the view into your store – and, as a result, are not commonly seen on the high street.

Clear graphics are a much more popular option. These allow natural light to stream into the shop, giving it a bright and welcoming feel. Cut to any shape or size, they can also be used to complement products displayed in the shop window. For example, an autumn-themed decal could be installed to showcase autumn clothes or a festive window graphic could be used to display Christmas gifts.

2. Decide on a message

Before you start to design custom window graphics, figure out exactly what you want to say – and the easiest way to say it. Do you wish to promote new seasonal products? Or perhaps advertise an upcoming sale? Whatever the message, try to keep the text as short and sweet as possible. The most effective decals use simple, conversational language and include buzz phrases to attract attention.

3. Select suitable colours

This is something you should think about carefully. Many people choose bright, eye-catching colours to make their decal stand out – which is great, as long as the text is still easy to read. But if your window graphics are seasonal, a better idea is to choose shades that are relevant to that season.

For example, orange, purple and black work well for Halloween. Christmas is all about reds, greens, golds etc. January sale signs are typically red. It may not seem like a big deal, but these little differences in colour can have a huge impact on the overall effectiveness of the sign.

4. Opt for bold artwork

Window graphics don’t necessarily have to feature artwork. But if you do wish to include an image or picture of some sort, be sure to make it as bold and distinctive as possible. It needs to be something that catches the eye, no matter which direction it’s approached from.

If you’re feeling creative, you can make the artwork yourself and send it across to our team. Or, tell us what you have in mind and our graphic designers will get to work making your idea a reality.
